Graphs R Us Data Visualization And Stylish Graphs With R

Figures convey the core message of a scientific paper, thesis or report. Producing attractive and meaningful graphs is therefore half the battle of writing up your research. R is renowned for its superb graphical capabilities allowing quick and easy data visualisation.

Aim

The tools and techniques imparted during this course will empower you to communicate your research findings clearly and efficiently with compelling, modern looking graphs.

Course Profile

All course options address the major graph types and styles, provide in-depth coverage of customisation techniques and culminate in the creation of multipanel figures and inset plots. Starting with quick exploratory plots we will work our way forward to stunning, publication-quality graphs.

R has two hard-wired graphics systems: the traditional system and the grid graphics system, both of which provide full functionality. In addition, there are two popular graphics packages: the older, very powerful but rather unintuitive lattice package and the newer, equally powerful but more intuitive ggplot2 package, which is an implementation of the grammar of graphics.

Our courses focus on the traditional graphics system and the ggplot2 package.

Course options

1-day course

Choose between R’s fabulous built-in traditional graphics or the popular ggplot2 plotting system, an implementation of the grammar of graphics in R.

2-day course

Day 1 – R’s built-in traditional graphics.
Day 2 – ggplot2 plotting system, an implementation of the grammar of graphics in R.
